Description
Alto Moncayo Veratón is a single varietal wine made exclusively from Garnacha grapes, one of the most emblematic varieties of the Campo de Borja Designation of Origin. The vines, between 30 and 50 years old, are goblet-trained and grown at an altitude of between 500 and 850 metres, on the slopes of the Moncayo Mountains. These growing conditions on poor soils, mostly composed of red clay, slate and quartzite, together with a continental climate of cold winters and hot summers, give the grapes a unique character. This contrast of temperatures between day and night favours optimum ripening of the grapes, giving the wine a remarkable structure.
Winemaking
The winemaking process of Alto Moncayo Veratón begins with a manual harvest, in which the best bunches are selected. Subsequently, the grapes are transported in small boxes to avoid crushing and a double selection is made in the winery. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, and malolactic fermentation takes place in new French and American oak barrels, which gives the wine greater complexity. The wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels (80% new and 20% second use), which gives it a great ageing capacity and a perfect balance between fruit and wood.
Taste
Alto Moncayo Veratón is characterised by a very expressive nose, with a wide range of ripe black fruit aromas, balsamic, chocolate and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is warm, enveloping and velvety, with fine, well-integrated tannins that give it great structure. The finish is long, lingering and very pleasant, with outstanding balance and elegance. This wine is ideal to accompany red meat dishes, cured cheeses and game dishes, enhancing its complexity in pairing.
This wine, besides being an excellent expression of the Garnacha grape, stands out for its power and ageing capacity, improving notably with time in the bottle.
