Buy Wine from Viñedos Alonso del Yerro
Viñedos Alonso del Yerro is located in Anguix, in the prestigious appellation of Ribera del Duero, province of Burgos, Spain.
The winery was founded in 2002 by Javier Alonso and María del Yerro, who, driven by a family passion, decided to name the project after their children's surnames. Since its beginnings, the history of this winery has been a testimony of dedication, dreams and love for wine. In search of quality and excellence, they relied on the advice of Stéphane Derenoncourt, a vineyard expert renowned for his work in Saint-Émilion and who, for the first time, embarked on a project outside France. Another key collaborator was Claude Bourguignon, who carried out a detailed soil analysis to optimise production.María del Yerro, co-founder and currently in charge of communication and public relations, together with her son Miguel Alonso, who is the winemaker and general manager, lead this family project. From the beginning, the vision was clear: to create high quality wines that express the character of their origin and stand out in Ribera del Duero.
Vineyards
The soul of Viñedos Alonso del Yerro lies in its lands, located at an altitude that varies between 800 and 840 metres above sea level. In Roa (Burgos), they have 26 hectares of vineyards planted with Tempranillo since 1989, a variety that is synonymous with the Spanish identity, capable of producing elegant and complex wines with a perfect balance between acidity, tannins, alcohol and power.
The soil is a rich combination of components that provides unique characteristics to the wine. The philosophy of terroir management is organic and respectful, without the use of synthetic products, and the only input is a handmade compost. The agricultural work is carried out exclusively by the winery team, ensuring meticulous care and a deep respect for the land. The average production is 30 hectolitres per hectare, which contributes to the high quality and concentration of their wines.
At the Miguel estate, in Morales de Toro (Zamora), they own 8.8 hectares of Tinta de Toro vineyards, planted between 1930 and 1988. This variety, considered by some as an adaptation of Tempranillo, is characterised by its capacity to produce intense and aromatic wines that reflect the harshness of its environment, with rocky soils and an extreme climate.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Viñedos Alonso del Yerro focuses on respect for the terroir and the preservation of the typicity of the region and its varieties. The approach is holistic, considering soil, climate and human interaction as an indivisible ecosystem. Miguel Alonso, the winemaker of the house, emphasises the importance of respecting the personality of the vineyard, which translates into sustainable practices and a winemaking process that seeks to maintain the natural balance.
The winemaking process focuses on vinification that brings out the qualities of each plot. The wines are carefully fermented and blended before being aged in barrels, seeking a perfect balance that expresses the identity of Ribera del Duero and Toro.
In short, Viñedos Alonso del Yerro is more than a winery; it is a family project full of passion, commitment and a deep respect for tradition and the environment. Its wines, such as Alonso del Yerro, María and Paydos, not only reflect the richness of the terroir, but also the effort and love that each member of the family puts into their creation.
