Buy Wine from Viñedos Alonso del Yerro
Viñedos Alonso del Yerro is a dream come tru, the dream of a young couple, Javier Alonso and María del Yerro, that's why the winery has their name: Alonso del Yerro. This project is born in the year 2002 in a 26 hectares estate on Roa municipality, Burgos, where Tempranillo grape is the star variety in the brown soils of clay-lime texture with some areas of gravel and sand. The clay keeps the water while the sand favours its drainage in case of rainfall, which improves the vine strength. The soil variety brings forth wines with similarities to Bordeaux ones, Graves and Saint-Émilion to be precise.
Concept, philosophy and wine style at Alonso del Yerro are bold and with the clear purpose of producing wines at the very Bordeaux style. Bold because when they just started, Ribera del Duero appellation was in the midst of an existential crisis, suffering a dramatic drop in the consumption of its wines. There was a problem of coherence as far as style and consistency were concerned, and wines were really bland and dull until Alonso del Yerro, an emerging winery, offered something different that would set trends… wines with personality and high quality standard at the same time.
Because Alonso del Yerro family, from the very beginning, knew how to surround themselves with expert and skilled people and were willing to receive their advice. Thus, they have always been supported by Stéphan Derenoncourt who is also consultant of celebrated wineries such as Château Figeac, La Mondotte and Domaine de Chevalier to name a few. Equally, Lionel Gorgue, with oenology degree by the University of Bordeaux, is the wine-making responsible at Alonso del Yerro. Is there anything else to ask for?
They only produce three wines with typical French character: Alonso del Yerro from Santa Marta estate. Made with Tempranillo grapes that have previously been screened in double selection tables. The wine scent is fruity and multidimensional. Alonso del Yerro María is the outcome of a plot selection. Some have already designated it as a “great wine”. And Paydos is a wine produced in Toro by Alonso del Yerro, which shows the most elegant side of a designation of origin known by its rough wines.
Viñedos Alonso del Yerro, wine for the modern aristocracy!
