Buy Wine from Mas Gil
Mas Gil, better known as Clos d'Agon, is a winery located in the town of Calonge in the province of Girona and is part of the D.O. Empordà. In 1998 six Swiss friends bought the winery, among them the following stand out: Franz J. Wermuth (négociant and wine auctioneer), Frank Ebinger (owner of Casa del Vino in Zürich) and Silvio Denz of Château Faugères in Saint Emilion.
The environment where it is located is unique in the area and perhaps that is why viticulture has been practiced there for more than 350 years; only 100 meters above sea level and facing south-southwest, it enjoys the protection of the forests of the Gavarres massif; of the total 42 hectares of the estate, only 15 hectares are dedicated to vine cultivation; they are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Roussane and Marsanne.
As a château in the center of the estate is where we will find the winery and an old farmhouse from the middle of the XVII century; the current winery began to be built in 2002 and was finished in 2006 with the purpose of providing Clos d'Agon with the necessary technology to produce great wines; and precisely for this reason the oenologist chosen for this purpose was the Danish Peter Sisseck, known for the elaboration of the prestigious wines of Dominio de Pingus.
His two flagship wines are Clos d'Agon white, a structured white with a predominance of very ripe stone fruit and a register that shows the warmth of the area; and Clos d'Agon Red. They have recently added a new line to the market of what we call "anti-crisis wines" called Amic and Amic Blanc.
