Buy Wine from Diamond Creek Vineyards
Diamond Creek Vineyards is located in the heart of the Napa Valley, in the town of Castiloga. Founded in 1968 by Al and Boots Brounstein, this winery is a testament to the American dream. Al Brounstein, a visionary, defied modern conventions and planted Bordeaux varietals in the secluded Diamond Mountain AVA. This decision changed the destiny of Napa Valley wines.
Al and Boots' story is one of passion and perseverance. They came to the Napa Valley with a love of wine, inspired by a tasting seminar Al took at the University of California, Los Angeles. It was on a trip in the back of a realtor's van that Al first saw the Diamond Creek property and decided to buy it. In 2020, the Rouzaud family, of the world-famous Maison Louis Roederer, acquired Diamond Creek, continuing the Brounstein legacy.Vineyards
Diamond Creek Vineyards extends over a geologically diverse, though relatively small, terroir. The estate is divided into four distinct vineyards, each with its own unique terroir due to different soil types and microclimates: Gravelly Meadow, a former prehistoric riverbed, this approximately 2 hectare vineyard has stony, porous soils that drain quickly, causing the vines to struggle for moisture; Red Rock Terrace, at approximately 2.80 hectares, this vineyard sits on rocky, red, iron-rich soil. Its north-facing orientation means that the grapes receive less direct sunlight; Volcanic Hill, this vineyard of approximately 3.2 hectares is on a south-facing slope. Its soil is light and spongy, the product of ash deposited by ancient volcanic eruptions; and Lake, the smallest and coolest vineyard on the estate, at only 0.30 hectares.
Philosophy
Diamond Creek focuses on making Single-Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons that express the unique terroir of each vineyard. Following a French model, the winery has remained committed to producing wines that reflect the terroirs that coexist on its estate. The quality of a wine, according to Diamond Creek, depends first and foremost on sustainable agriculture and care for the land. Since its inception, the winery has farmed its own vineyards, and the team that tends the vines has been with the winery for decades, ensuring a consistency in the quality and character of its wines.
