Tomàs Cusiné is the alma mater of the wine making area of Les Garrigues, where wines full of personality are produced under Costers del Segre designation of origin. We should keep in mind that Tomàs was Cérvoles winery founder and one of Castell del Remei successors, but his career took another direction when in 2003 he decided to become independent and develop a personal project with his name in each wine bottle. We must admit that young vigneron Tomàs Cusiné knows perfectly each and every one of this province's corners. For years, with patience and concern, he has purchased the best land parcels.
All in all his property encompasses about 29 vineyard hectares at 750 metres above sea level with calcareous soils of silty-loamy textures and rich in gravel that allow good drainage and root penetration. The vineyards border at the south with Priorat and Conca de Barberà (Tarragona) regions, and enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate, with scarce rainfall tough. In his gardens many foreign varieties flourish: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Marselan, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viogner and Müller Thurgau together with traditional Tempranillo, Garnacha, Moscatel and Macabeo.
Tomàs Cusiné wines are, from our point of view, unrestricted wines for traditional palates that look for refined elegance and concentration at the same time. Should we establish a comparison we could say that Cusiné wines are Costers del Segre's Bordeaux, perhaps slightly dull for bold drinkers.
The winery produces eight wines of different styles and segments. How are Tomàs Cusiné wines like? Vilosell is the winery calling card. It was the first one produced by Tomàs with the idea of a short aged wine that brings together all the features of a great wine for all budgets. Geol is power, tannins and density. If you appreciate explosion wines, this one has your name on! Llebre is Tomàs Cusiné cheap and chearful wine. Finca Comabarra embodies man's maturity. Fine cloves, leather, spices and roasted red pepper notes… what else can we ask for? Drac Màgic is bitter and refreshing, just like tonic water… quenches your thirst in the summer time! Auzells is a citric, scented and herbaceous wine, gin-wine by Tomàs? Finally Macabeu Finca Racons: dense, rich, unctuous wine befitting hungry drinkers.
