Buy Wine from Vandal Wine
Raphaël Baissas de Chastenet of Vandal Wine Cellar, has taken over the family vineyard since 2014. At the same time he settled in the town of Calce, in the Languedoc Roussillon wine region in the south of France.
Raphael believes that winemaking is an art and should be done with low intervention, manual harvesting, without using chemicals and with indigenous yeast.
A brief history
The history of the founder of Bodega Vandal Wine is linked to his interest in good natural wine and the characteristics of the vine.
As a child, Raphaël Baissas de Chastenet helped his paternal grandfather in the winery. This is how he developed a taste for farming, without giving up the illusion of creating his own wine.
Later, his father gave him the opportunity to take over the vineyards planted thirty years ago and he settled in Calce, his native land, 200 metres above sea level, in Roussillon, where he followed the advice of the great French winegrower Jean-Philippe Padié.
He owns 7 hectares to prepare wines as close to the soil as possible. His first successful vintage was obtained in 2014.
Traditional working methods
Raphaël aims for his wines to be as true to nature as possible. Wines from a single grape are not blended. For this reason, the grapes are harvested by hand and made without any chemical products.
Raphaël grows Carignan, Syrah, Lledoner Pelut and Grenache as naturally as possible and has been making wines without any chemicals since the 2015 vintage. The method includes no sulphur and no filtration, it is completely natural.
Nothing... That is the great personality of their wines and their brand, no additives, nothing, completely attached to the land and its fruits.
The selection of the grape berry is done trying to get the most out of it. The wine is aged in vats, with no churning or filtering. The yeasts are autochthonous.
Nowadays the winery has grown and there are new grape varieties.
Nothing more than what nature offers to the wine.
For Raphaël Baissas de Chastenet of Vandal Wine, nature gives good wine its characteristics.
The enveloping climate and the composition of the soil give the grapes, with as little human intervention as possible, their characteristic aroma and colour. In an imaginative way, man intervenes in almost "nothing".
And you, have you already tasted some of the wines of the Vandal Wine Cellar? Come on, we invite you to taste them!
