Description
Alonso Quijano is the Spanish edition of this wine, illustrated by Daniel Torres, Spanish artist known for his comic "Rocco Vargas". A creation of the Niepoort winery, from vineyards located in the prestigious Douro wine region. Grown on schist soils and coming from several vineyards with an average vine age between 10 to 40 years, this wine combines grape varieties such as Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in September and fermentation takes place in granite vats with a total maceration of 12 days. It is then aged for 12 months, 20% in 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels and 80% in stainless steel. With an alcohol content of 12.9% and a pH of 3.71, this wine reflects the rich winemaking tradition of Portugal and evokes the rich history and culture of Spain through its name.
Taste
It is a dark ruby-coloured wine with an intense aroma of red and black fruits and a spicy character. On the palate it is young, attractive and fresh, with fruity tannins, good acidity and an attractive structure.
