Viña Meín O Gran Mein Tinto 2020

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2020 O Gran Mein Tinto was produced with a blend of 61% Caíño Longo, from slate and clay soils that provide structure and length while keeping the freshness, and 39% Brancellao, from sandy soils that deliver very delicate and pale wines. The don't have certifications yet (they are looking into that, but it's not easy because of the many neighbors working with chemicals...), but the vines are worked organically and some biodynamic treatments are applied. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in neutral oak barrels and stainless steel for 10 months. It feels a little closed and shy, serious and harmonious. The palate is balanced, subtly tannic and with a touch of earthiness. It opens up with time in the glass to beautiful aromas of wild herbs, berries and flowers. 1,810 bottles, 200 magnums and five three-liter bottles were produced.

Description
If you have ever strolled through the Ribeiro vineyards, you will know that there is something magical about this land. O Gran Meín Tinto is born in the Avia valley, where the Atlantic breeze caresses the grapes and the sun ripens them calmly. This wine is a tribute to that essence, made with passion by the Viña Meín - Emilio Rojo winery, a company that understands the vine like few others.
Its soul is composed of Caíño Longo (61%), which provides structure and depth, and Brancellao (39%), which adds delicacy and freshness. If wines could talk, this one would tell us stories of slate and clay soils that give it its firm character, while the sand gives it a charming lightness.
The vines of O Gran Meín Tinto grow in the Osebe and Ribeira plots, located in the north of Leiro. The east orientation allows them to receive the morning light, favouring a balanced ripening. Here, nature rules, and although the winery is not yet certified, its work follows organic and biodynamic principles, respecting the environment and its uniqueness.
Winemaking
For the production of O Gran Meín Tinto, each plot is vinified separately, with fermentations in stainless steel to enhance the purity of the fruit. The wine then rests for ten months before bottling, followed by two years of bottle ageing. The result is a red wine that evolves with time, like a good memory that is best savoured over the years.
Taste
When you pour a glass of O Gran Meín Tinto, at first it seems reserved, like someone who is slow to open up in conversation. But give it a breath and you'll be treated to aromas of wild herbs, berries and flowers. On the palate, the story continues: a balance between soft tannins and an earthy note that takes you back to the vineyard.
O Gran Meín Tinto is a vibrant and expressive wine, with that unmistakable Ribeiro Atlantic character. One sip and suddenly, it's easy to imagine yourself on a golden afternoon among the vineyards, feeling the wind playing with the leaves. That's what this wine is like: honest, exciting and with a whisper of Galicia in every sip.
