Description
Oremus Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos is much more than a sweet wine. It is a window into the history, the centuries-old tradition of Tokaj, Hungary's legendary wine region. Made by the Oremus winery, part of the renowned Tempos Vega Sicilia group, this Aszú is the result of meticulous work in the vineyards and infinite patience in the cellar.
To create this gem, mainly Furmint grapes are used, along with Hárslevelű, Zéta and Sárgamuskotály. But here a good selection of varieties is not enough: the grapes must have been touched by Botrytis cinerea, the miracle fungus that transforms the fruit, concentrating its sugars and enhancing its aromas.
The vineyards of Oremus Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos grow on volcanic soils, a mineral base that gives this wine a unique personality. The climate of the area plays a crucial role: misty autumns, with cool mornings and warm afternoons, create the perfect conditions for botrytis to work its magic.
Winemaking
The winemaking of Oremus Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos is an art. The overripe, raisined grapes are hand-picked and added in the proportion of three puttonyos (about 75 kg) to a barrel of base must. They are left to macerate gently before a slow pressing, allowing all the sugars and aromatic compounds to be extracted. Fermentation is slow, and ageing takes place in small Hungarian oak barrels, where the wine rests for at least three years before bottling. During this process, the wine reaches a concentration of 60-90 grams of sugar per litre, achieving a balance between sweetness and freshness that makes it unmistakable. A process that cannot be rushed; patience is key to achieve its balance and elegance.
Taste
From the first glance, the bright golden colour of Oremus Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos promises something special. On the nose, the glass is filled with aromas of ripe fruit, honey and that hint of candied peach that makes you close your eyes and smile. But it is on the palate that this wine really shines. It is silky, with an enveloping sweetness that never cloys thanks to its excellent acidity.
Think of a slice of toast with honey and orange zest. That bittersweet, vibrant sensation is what it leaves on the palate. And the long, lingering finish invites you to take another sip, to enjoy it unhurriedly. Perfect to accompany desserts with nuts, foie gras or simply to end a special dinner with a glass in your hand and a good conversation.
If you have never tried a Tokaji, this is a great start. And if you already love these wines, you know that an Oremus never disappoints.
