Description
Giovanni Rosso Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a wine that perfectly reflects the character of the terroir it comes from. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, one of Italy's most prestigious grapes, this wine is born in the vineyards located in Serralunga d'Alba, an emblematic area within the denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin (DOCG) Barolo. The vineyards are located at an altitude that varies between 300 and 350 metres above sea level, with an exposure that favours the optimal development of the grapes. The vines grow in soils rich in minerals, which contribute to the wine's remarkable structure and depth.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested completely by hand, which guarantees that only the best grapes are selected. After harvesting in October, the grapes are destemmed and undergo fermentation in contact with the skins in concrete tanks for approximately 25 days. This fermentation process includes daily pumping over and a"délestage" process, which favours the extraction of soft tannins and complex aromas. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels from the forests of Fontainbleau, in an ageing process that can last between 18 and 36 months, depending on the vintage.
Taste
On the palate, Giovanni Rosso Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba stands out for its balanced profile and complexity. The wine opens with aromas of ripe fruits such as raspberry and plums, which intertwine with hints of cocoa, dark chocolate and spices such as pepper. This aromatic profile is enriched with delicate notes of vanilla and tobacco, contributed by its ageing in oak barrels.
On tasting, the wine offers a smooth texture on the mid-palate, with tannins present but finely polished, giving it an elegant structure. Its fresh, vibrant acidity is balanced by the depth of flavours, leaving a long, lingering finish. This wine is ideal to accompany dishes rich in flavour, such as braised red meats, game dishes or aged cheeses. To fully enjoy its qualities, it is recommended to serve it between 16 and 18 °C, which will allow its aromas and flavours to fully unfold.
