Egon Müller's excellent 2023 Scharzhof Riesling blends the fruit from three different sites, where the Saarburg Rausch plays the dominant part followed by the Witlinger Braunfels and the Rosenberg, both neighboring the famous Scharzhofberg. The bright colored wine opens with a ripe yet elegant and delicate Saar Riesling aroma with its fine and spicy slate notes. Round, juicy and actually ample on the palate, this is a savory and persistently saline Saar Riesling that becomes lean and focused on the finish. It is exuberant, long and complex as well as balanced and frisky. Tasted at the domaine in April and August 2024.

Description
Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling is a semi-dry white wine(feinherb) that comes from the Mosel Saar Ruwer region in Germany. This white wine, with a brilliant light yellow hue, is made exclusively from the Riesling grape variety, which accounts for 100% of its composition. This variety is known for its ability to reflect the terroir and the specific characteristics of the region where it is grown.
Winemaking
It all starts with a refined manual selection of the grapes. These grapes grow in specific areas such as Oberemmeler Rosenberg, Wiltinger Braunfels and Saarburger Rausch. Once harvested, they are pressed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. This process ensures that the characteristic aromas and flavours of the Riesling grape are preserved.
Taste
Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling reveals notes of vine peach, yellow plum, lime and herbal hints. In addition, nuances of forest floor, Mediterranean herbs and green pepper can be perceived. This wine is characterised by its slightly sweet taste, accompanied by a fresh acidity that gives it vivacity and dynamism. Its flavour is reminiscent of fruits such as green apple and lime, presenting a fresh, ultra-fine and mineral profile. It has a long finish, leaving a pleasant and refreshing sensation on the palate.
