Description
Clandestí Ancestral Confiscat is an exceptional wine that represents the essence of a 53-year-old vineyard. This wine, made from Xarel.lo grapes, has been carefully aged for 10 months on the lees, a process that gives it a remarkable volume on the palate and a distinctive yeast influence.
Winemaking
This wine is made at the Bodega Clandestina winery, located in Sant Martí Sarroca, west of Barcelona, in the Penedés region of northwestern Spain. Ferran Lacruz, the winemaker behind this project started in 2018, has opted for an unconventional approach by not conforming to the regulations of any appellation of origin. This allows him to compose his wines according to his unique vision. Ferran cultivates his vineyards in a completely organic way, without using additives during the winemaking process, nor any fining or filtering. Furthermore, in order to make the most of all the parts of the grape, he leaves all his wines in contact with the skins.
Taste
Clandestí Ancestral Confiscat is a charming pet-nat (ancestral method sparkling wine) that stands out for its golden colour and its intense fragrance of ripe yellow apple, with hints of old bread and nuts. On the palate, the same aromas are perceived, accompanied by a light touch of citrus jam. It has high acidity, low alcohol content (11.8%) and perhaps a touch of natural residual sugar. It is a very refreshing wine, although it tends to be more one-dimensional in its flavour profile.
