Description
Atteca Armas is a wine made exclusively with the Garnacha grape variety, coming from centenary vineyards located on hillsides at high altitude in the D.O. Calatayud. These vineyards cover just 2.5 hectares and are located on stony and slate soils, which gives the wine a marked mineral character. The continental climate of the area, characterised by cold winters and hot summers, contributes to the slow ripening of the grapes, resulting in a higher concentration of sugars and aromas.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in order to select the grapes at their optimum ripeness. The vinification process begins with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, preserving the fresh and fruity aromas of the Garnacha. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, where its acidity is softened and its structure is rounded. Finally, the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in new French oak barrels, which gives it complexity, spicy aromas and notes of cocoa, leather and tobacco.
Taste
Atteca Armas is powerful and structured on the palate, with a remarkable elegance. Ripe red fruit flavours predominate, such as blueberries and raspberries, accompanied by spicy hints of pepper and nutmeg, characteristics acquired during its long ageing. The wine's minerality, derived from the slate soils, is expressed in the form of mineral hints that add great depth. The tannins are firm but well integrated, and the finish is persistent, with notes of leather and tobacco that invite further enjoyment.
This wine has great ageing potential and can be cellared for several years to allow its aromas and flavours to become even more integrated and complex over time.
