Description
The wine Andreas Tscheppe Schwalbenschwanz is a jewel originating from Austria, specifically from the Südsteiermark region, Leutschach. This wine comes from the Krepskogel vineyard, characterised by its terraces. The grape variety used for its production is Goldmuskateller, representing 100% of its composition. The vines, which are 14 years old, are planted at a density of 4,200 plants per hectare, geographically oriented towards the southeast and at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level. The soil in which these vines grow is karg, an opaque soil with mica.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out with complete destemming, without stemming. Unlike many wines, Schwalbenschwanz is fermented in oak barrels 13 to 19 years old, with capacities of 225 and 600 litres, where it remains in contact with the skins for 3 weeks. During this time, pigeage is carried out to extract the tannins and colour from the skins. The wine is racked three times and matured in the same barrels for 18 months. It is bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without the addition of sulphur.
Taste
The aroma of Andreas Tscheppe Schwalbenschwanz is sensual and captivating, with distinctive notes of tropical fruits, orange blossom, white tea and hops. However, despite this promising start, the palate can seem slightly lacking in depth and balance. The primary notes that come through are of orange peel, citrus and salty minerals, accompanied by noticeable acidity and a short-lived finish.
