Buy Wine from Suertes del Marqués
Suertes del Marqués is a winery where wines are produced from three sections: the Vinos de Villa, which come from plots of other properties, but are vinified separately and blended before bottling; the Vinos de Parcela, which come from the Finca El Esquilón estate, and the special vinifications of sweet wines.
Francisco Javier García Núñez and his sons founded the Suertes del Marqués winery in 2006, as an initiative to preserve one of the most significant customs of this area, the agricultural movement. However, over the years, it has become one of the best known wineries in the Canary Islands.
Let's talk about its history
The name of this winery is due to the fact that in ancient times these plots of land were called "suertes", and as it was owned by a landowner, his surname was added to it.
There are 21 plots that make up this winery, which can be differentiated by the composition of the soil, altitude and temperature, elements that also determine the personality of each wine.
This winery has been qualified as representative of the Canary Islands in the Matter of Taste, in the city of London, debuting with wines that scored more than 90 points and also managed to stand out in international publications.
However, this event has not been the only one of their most important presentations, as some of these wines were also included in the list of TOP 100 Spanish Wines of the year 2016, reaching the 41st position with Los Pasitos 2014.
The element that best defines this winery is the little intervention in the ageing processes, and it is that from the grape harvest to the ageing process is carried out under traditional elements.
Techniques used
The processes and techniques used in this winery are carried out manually, avoiding the use of chemical products that could alter the evolution of the wine, also guaranteeing that the elements involved are natural. They use indigenous yeasts and also add sulphur dioxide only for the bottling process of the wines.
Another of the particular elements of this winery is that they use for the fermentation and ageing process, open vats of 500 litres capacity, made of concrete and foudres of French oak. These were made by artisan coopers who ensure that the refining process does not interfere with the nuances of the wine.
However, they also have barrels made of stainless steel where they make the blends of the Vinos de Villa and the plot wines, prior to bottling.
Vineyards
This is a winery with a vineyard of more than 11 hectares located in La Orotava. Most of them are centenary black and white Listán vines, which were cultivated under a special system defined by multiple cordons.
Sweet wines, with artisan nuances.
The wines of the winery Suertes del Marqués are sweet wines, which, as we have mentioned, apply minimal intervention in the ageing process, resulting in unique nuances that revive local traditions.
